A+! 12:16PM Saturday, June 28, 2008 It's been a while since I've done any updating, but it's hard to keep up with the site during the summer when I'm working a full time job and taking summer school classes as well. Youtube! 10:47PM Monday, May 19, 2008 We're still going strong! Almost to 500 pixels removed. Man Box??? 1:16PM Monday, May 13, 2008 Finals are finally over, and school is out! I still have a couple more weeks until this project will be graded, so keep on removing pixels! Woohoo! Cheaper pixels! 9:52PM Monday, April 28, 2008 Finals week is upon us, so I haven't been as attentive to site updates as I wanted to be, but tomorrow is my presentation of the website! In honor of that, and hopefully to generate a few more last minute hits, I've decided to lower the price of the pixels from $1 a pixel to $.50 a pixel!!! (Note: this means that any pixels that are purchased from here on out-- unless I decide to change the price again-- will be worth $0.50 per pixel. This does not apply to previous donations.) I've still got a few more weeks until the hits are tallied up, so keep checking back! Again, I'd like to emphasize that the main reason that I'm doing this is for class, and I'm not in it for the money. Happy Earth Day 4:55PM Tuesday, April 22, 2008 After a relatively slow weekend, I've decided to rethink a few of my strategies. Here are some new things to look forward to in the near future:
The OpenNet Initiative (ONI) has just come out with a book, Access Denied: The Practice and Policy of Global Internet Filtering. After reading some reviews, the book appears to touch on details of Internet censorship around the world, and how it has and will affect the way that we can access various pieces of the Internet. The Internet as we know it is an open range, and since it's still in its (somewhat) developmental stages where we're just starting to grasp the endless possibilities of what's out there. Unfortunately, with every new medium comes a new set of rules, and while the amount of online content is growing exponentially, the amount of censored content is also steadily increasing. "There are three basic rationales for Internet censorship: politics and power; social norms, morals and religion; and security concerns." (Access: Nature, "Census of Cyberspace Censoring") Rather than providing reasons for or against Internet censorship, however, the book seems to be simply a reference for documenting the regulation of censorship on a global scale. Also in the news today is an article from CNN, Writers push for laws to maintain Internet freedom. A story that hits home for many who enjoy watching TV as well as surfing the 'net. Of course, we all want our favorite TV shows to continue (as many have already started making their comeback to their usual viewing times), and we all want to be able to freely browse around the Internet without much intervention (see Wikipedia's Network Neutrality entry). While the writer's strike is over for the most part, there are still a lot of issues that need to be worked out in this area. Day Two. 5:14PM Thursday, April 17, 2008 So far, it looks like there's been a little hype generated. My hits are definitely starting to take off, and I've actually sold some pixels! (I would just like to point out right now that I have not and do not intend to remove any pixels "just to get the ball rolling". All of the pixels that I have sold have been paid for.) Remove my Box is launched! 12:11PM Wednesday, April 16, 2008 So this idea has been sizzling around in my head for a while, inspired by asking a simple question to several people: What is one thing you'd like to see on the Internet? Most common response: boobs. (Proof) |
